Voice scams using AI-generated voices are becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to detect. VoiceGuardAI helps you identify potential voice scams by analyzing voicemails for signs of synthetic or manipulated audio. This guide will walk you through the process of scanning a voicemail using our app.

Note: VoiceGuardAI requires access to your device's microphone and storage to analyze voicemails. These permissions are only used when you explicitly initiate a scan and are necessary for the app to function properly.

Prerequisites

  • VoiceGuardAI app installed on your device (iOS or Android)
  • A suspicious voicemail you'd like to analyze
  • Microphone and storage permissions granted to the app

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Open the VoiceGuardAI App

Launch the VoiceGuardAI app on your smartphone. Make sure you're logged into your account. If you haven't created an account yet, you'll need to sign up first.

On the home screen, you'll see a dashboard with options including "Scan Voicemail," "Scan History," and "Settings."

2

Tap "Scan Voicemail"

On the app's home screen, tap the "Scan Voicemail" button. This will open the voicemail scanning interface.

If this is your first time using the app, you may be prompted to grant microphone and storage permissions. These are required for the app to access and analyze your voicemails.

3

Select the Voicemail Source

VoiceGuardAI offers multiple ways to scan a voicemail:

  • Direct from Voicemail App: On compatible devices, VoiceGuardAI can access your voicemail app directly (requires additional permissions).
  • Upload Audio File: If you've saved the voicemail as an audio file, you can upload it from your device storage.
  • Record Playback: Play the voicemail on another device and let VoiceGuardAI record it through your phone's microphone.

Select the option that works best for your situation.

4

Share or Upload the Voicemail

Depending on the option you selected in Step 3:

  • If using Direct from Voicemail App, select the voicemail you want to analyze from the list.
  • If Uploading an Audio File, browse your device storage and select the saved voicemail file. VoiceGuardAI supports common audio formats including MP3, WAV, M4A, and AAC.
  • If using Record Playback, tap "Start Recording" and then play the voicemail on your other device. Tap "Stop Recording" when the voicemail ends.
5

Wait for Analysis

Once the voicemail is uploaded or recorded, VoiceGuardAI will begin analyzing it. You'll see a progress indicator on the screen.

The analysis typically takes 5-10 seconds, depending on the length of the voicemail and your internet connection speed. Our AI model processes over 500 acoustic features to identify signs of synthetic or manipulated audio.

Tip: For optimal results, ensure the voicemail audio is clear and has minimal background noise. Longer samples (at least 3 seconds of speech) provide more accurate results.
6

Review the Results

After the analysis is complete, VoiceGuardAI will display the results with one of the following classifications:

  • Likely Human: Our AI is confident that the voice in the voicemail is from a real human.
  • Likely AI-Generated: Our AI has detected characteristics consistent with synthetic or manipulated audio.
  • Uncertain: There are some suspicious patterns, but not enough to make a definitive determination.

Along with the classification, you'll see a confidence score (percentage) indicating how certain our AI is about the result.

Important: While VoiceGuardAI uses advanced AI technology to detect synthetic voices, no system is 100% accurate. Always use additional verification methods when dealing with suspicious calls or voicemails, especially if they involve requests for money or sensitive information.
7

Take Appropriate Action

Based on the analysis results, you can take appropriate action:

  • If the voicemail is Likely AI-Generated, be extremely cautious. Do not return the call or follow any instructions in the voicemail without verifying the sender's identity through other means.
  • If the result is Uncertain, use additional verification methods before taking any action based on the voicemail.
  • Even if the voicemail is classified as Likely Human, remain vigilant if the content seems suspicious or unusual.
8

Report and Save (Optional)

After reviewing the results, you have additional options:

  • Save to History: Save the scan result to your history for future reference.
  • Report Scam: If you believe the voicemail is a scam, you can report it to help improve our detection algorithms.
  • Share Results: Share the scan results with others who might have received similar voicemails.

All users have access to advanced features, including detailed analysis reports and unlimited scan history.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Error: "Unable to Process Audio"

This error typically occurs when:

  • The audio file is corrupted or in an unsupported format
  • The voicemail is too short (less than 3 seconds of speech)
  • The audio quality is too poor for analysis

Try using a different source for the voicemail or ensure the audio is clear and of sufficient length.

Error: "Network Connection Required"

VoiceGuardAI requires an internet connection to analyze voicemails. Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or has a stable mobile data connection before attempting to scan.

Permission Issues

If you're having trouble accessing your voicemails or recording audio, check that you've granted all necessary permissions to the app:

  • For iOS: Settings > Privacy > Microphone > Enable for VoiceGuardAI
  • For Android: Settings > Apps > VoiceGuardAI > Permissions > Enable Microphone and Storage
Privacy Note: VoiceGuardAI does not permanently store your voicemails. After analysis, the audio is immediately deleted from our servers. Only the analysis results are stored (if you choose to save them to your history).
